Notes & Reviews:

This is the first release of these studio recordings made in the 1960s. The Schubert, arranged by Hoiby, is given its first and only performance to date. These recordings came from the personal archive of the conductor.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
Jonathan Sternberg seems to have led a fascinating life, including a friendship with Georges Enesco that began when he was offered the sum of two dollars to turn pages for the Romanian during a concert at NYU. The Schubert is an adaptation of the Op. 82: 2 piano duet, an introduction and variations, to which Hoiby added a theme. So it became Introduction, Theme, and Variations, and it is quite charming and tastefully made; this is its first recording. Rieti's Capers is enjoyable light music as well; Menotti's Sebastian is fun.
