Notes & Reviews:

The French pianist Cédric Tiberghien has made several highly acclaimed recital and chamber recordings. Now he joins the impressive roster of pianists who have contributed to Hyperion's Romantic Piano Concerto series. On this release, Tiberghien is accompanied by Andrew Manze and the BBC Scottish Symphony in three works by Théodore Dubois that present a captivating panorama of the composer's stylistic evolution. The Concerto capriccioso of 1876 seems like a preliminary study in the style of such composers as Weber and Mendelssohn, whereas the highly Romantic Concerto in F minor (1897) is reminiscent of Saint-Saëns. The completely unknown Suite for piano and strings (1917), for its part, resembles a neoclassical pastiche.

The Observer
A remarkably mature command and sureness of touch...

The Times, 28th June 2013
Piano Concerto No 2 of 1898 won't give you great tunes or high drama but it's attractive...The best of the three exhibits is the lighter and sprightly Suite...Vigorously supported...Tiberghien plays as though he loves every dancing note.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
The one-movement, 16-minute Concerto- Capriccioso is a much more dramatic work, opening with a long cadenza-like introduction. Engineers allow all of Cedric Tiberghien's full-voiced, deeply expressive, and highly nuanced style to have its full effect across the entire keyboard. Piano Concerto 2 is a full four-movement 28-minute work filled with the same drama, bell-like transparency, panache, full orchestration, and dazzling melodic and harmonic vocabulary as the Concerto Capriccioso.
