Notes & Reviews:
This collection brings together the complete symphonies and orchestral works of Ralph Vaughan Williams, performed by celebrated conductor Bernard Haitink and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The set demonstrates the breadth of the composer's musical, historical and cultural influences - in works such as Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Sinfonia antartica - and contains some of the most memorable moments in music, such as the thrilling opening fanfare of A Sea Symphony, the contemplative mourning of the Pastoral Symphony and the beautiful passages for solo violin in The Lark Ascending.

- Vaughan Williams is a much revered figure in the history of British music
- Included in this set is the ravishingly beautiful 'The Lark Ascending'
- Bernard Haitink was a one-time principal conductor of the London Philharmonic

This set presents RVW in a slightly heretical way that will appeal to those whose RVW tastes have become jaded or for those who have, for whatever reason, been put off by the mainstream cycles. Well worth the price - which is modest - and the journey.
