...There are flute duets, trios and quartets, some of these with lute accompaniment. These various textures, along with the interspersed pieces for solo lute or theorbo, make for a varied and enjoyable program; one that is beautifully performed here from start to finish... This recording is the sequel to The Attaignant Consort's first disc, Madame d'amours and the third and last in a series of three recordings presenting the art of the Renaissance flute, both as solo instrument and as a consort instrument from the late 15th century until the middle of the 17th.

11 items originated as vocal works. In at least two cases, contemporaneous instrumental adaptations are played here. It is true that in the times of this music it was common for singers and players to treat it freely as to performing forces. That is all very well for individual, oneshot occasions. The playing is flawless and responsible.
