Notes & Reviews:

Born in 1953, composer Yinam Leef is one of Israel's most prominent composers. His catalog ranges from small, intimate solo pieces to massive orchestral compositions. His compositions have enjoyed numerous performances around the world and he is twice the recipient of the Prime Minister Prize for Israeli Composers. He is on the faculty of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and has served as guest composer at Stanford University. This recording features a number of his chamber and vocal compositions.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
The Invisible Carmel (1981-2), which deals directly with that subject as expressed by the poet Zelda. The instrumental chamber works are six Intermezzos for flute, clarinet, bassoon, string trio and piano, written in 2009, Diptych for violin and ten players of 1997, and a Trio (Canaanite Fantasy No. 5) for clarinet, violin, and piano from 2006. These are also written in expressively ambiguous tonality, scored with color, and played with feeling. Leef is a master of the unexpected mixed with the emotionally moving. His idiom is expressive. I am glad to have him.
