Notes & Reviews:

However rewardingly Dmitri Shostakovich endowed pianists with chamber music, Russian violinists felt somewhat neglected by their giant with his only late Sonata, Op. 134 of 1968. So, it seemed obvious to compose arrangements of works for violin and piano. Some of these have established themselves in concert life, but others, although of no lesser quality, have remained largely unknown. David Frühwirth started his training at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Paul Roczek, Jürgen Geise, and Rugiero Ricci. He continued his studies in Lübeck with renowned pedagogue Zakhar Bron, where he graduated at 20 years old before Pinchas Zukerman invited him to New York to work on additional postgraduate diplomas. His partner on this disc, Ukrainian pianist Milana Chernyavska, has established herself as one of the leading pianists of our time. The legendary Alfred Brendel once commented, "Complete happiness is to listen to Milana Chernyavska perform."
