Notes & Reviews:

In cooperation with the Unitas Lodge, Katja Zakotnik and Naila Alvarenga-Lahmann release a CD of chamber music works inspired by Freemasonry. The program includes cheerful impressions from the Magic Flute, as interpreted by Beethoven, and Nordic sounds suffused with light by the Finnish national composer Sibelius, as well as music of Johann Nepomuk Hummel.

American Record Guide, January/February 2014
Undeniably attractive program of cello-piano music contains liner notes by Judith Wensky and the cellist relating each composer to the Freemasons in different ways. The six Geminiani sonatas have been recorded together several times, the Hummel Variations, Op. 54 also. Even the Sibelius pieces, originally for the violin, have been played on the cello a good deal. They sound very effective this way. Beethoven wrote two sets of variations on melodies from Mozart's Magic Flute, 12 on 'Ein Madchen oder Weibchen' and seven on 'Bei Mannern, Welche Liebe Fuhlen'. They are lovely ones. The performers here play with taste and warmth.
