Notes & Reviews:
The Lady of the Camellias has inspired plays, films, operas and ballets. Carl Davis' new score, based closely on Alexandre Dumas' novel, was commissioned by the National Ballet of Croatia and premiered in Zagreb in 2008. The tragic love story of Marguerite and Armand still rings out across the centuries.
American Record Guide, January/February 2014
The Lady of the Camellias was a tragic love story by Alexandre Dumas (it inspired Verdi's La Traviata as well as several films). This adaptation was commissioned by the National Ballet of Croatia and first performed in 2008. It's almost as if the composer were trying to create archetypical ballet music based more on the conventions of the genre than his own creativity. Continuing the theme of this release, the recording is satisfactory.
