Notes & Reviews:

Witold Malcuzynski, born 1914 in Warsaw, is regarded as one the greatest heirs of the Polish piano tradition inherited from Paderewski. Malcuzynski was also one of the greatest Chopin specialists, which is reflected in this ICON set. Malcuzynski introduced objectivity in the Polish piano tradition - a kind of disdain for rubato and an art of precise phrasing which can be observed today in the art of a Krystian Zimerman. These recordings from Malcuzynski are dedicated to the romantic repertoire and have been unavailable for decades - not to be missed by piano lovers.

  • 8CD set - Romantic-era piano repertoire with a Chopin focus
  • Witold Malcuzynski eschewed rubato and the romantic tendency to waywardness for rhythmic clarity and precision in phrasing
  • Long unavailable recordings make this pianist's work ripe for rediscovery
