Notes & Reviews:

Finnish pianist Risto-Matti Marin performs virtuoso arrangements of music by Wagner. A recent graduate of the Sibelius Academy, Marin was awarded first prize in the Kuopio Piano Competition and the Hlmi Vesa Piano Competition. He was third-prize winner at the Franz Liszt Piano Competition in 2003.

American Record Guide, January/February 2014
Marin's recording approaches the tribute uniquely. This collection is well organized and performed superbly. Marin handles Liszt's 'Valhalla' deftly. In typical Liszt fashion, the piece abounds with tremolos, octaves, big chords, and dramatic declamations. The best work here is Schelling's rendition of the Prelude from Tristan and Isolde. Marin approaches this magnificent material passionately, making it his own in pure virtuoso fashion. Of all the Wagner recordings I have heard in 2013, Marin's remains the most memorable for its thoughtfulness, substance, and interesting programming.
