Performers Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Maximilian Schmitt has already been compared to many great models; in this new recording from Oehms Classics, he proves once again how ideally suited his voice is and how magnificently Franz Schubert can sound. At the piano is the vocal accompanist of our age, Gerold Huber.

American Record Guide, March/April 2014
Beyond the interpretive value of a performance, the sheer sound of the voice helps form your judgment about it. If you're looking for a tenor reading, you may prefer a sweeter voice like Pregardien and Blochwitz or a more dramatic baritonal tenor like Kaufmann or a lyric voice with some bite and edge like Schreier or Schade. Schmitt is closer to the third category. I'll stick with Wunderlich, whose reading is good and whose voice is ideal for this music.
