Notes & Reviews:

It was with Verdi that the leading tenor of our time, Jonas Kaufmann, made his international breakthrough in 2006 when he sang Alfredo Germont in La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. And for Kaufmann, the Verdi bicentenary in 2013 will be dominate by performance of works by the great Italian opera composer, including his debut album for Sony Classical, The Verdi Album. Recorded with Pier Girogio Moradi conducting the Orchestra dell' Opera di Parma, this new album features twelve of Verdi's greatest tenor hits, eleven of which are recorded for the first time by Kaufmann. His choice of arias demonstrates the remarkable breadth of Kaufmann's musical versatility and expression. Along with the standard jewel case release, The Verdi Album is also available as a limited-edition deluxe digipak that includes a bonus track and an additional booklet on Verdi's life and music, with images of Kaufmann in Parma.

Munic-born singer, Jonas Kaufmann, is without a doubt at the absolute top echelon of the operatic world. He is in extreme demand with the world's most influential conductors, selling out opera houses and concert venues months in advance wherever he performs. In 2011, he received the Opera News Award in New York and was made a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France. He has been awarded "Stinger of the Year" by many prestigious journals including ECHO Klassic and Musical America. Kaufmann is also an internationally sought-after concert and Lieder singer. In October of 2011 he performed the first solo recital to be given at the Metropolitan Opera since Luano Pavarotti in 1994. Kaufmann will be performing in a new production of Massenet's Werther at the Met in February 2014.

The Washington Post
Just about anything the German tenor Jonas Kaufmann does these days is special, and he sounds in particularly fresh voice...

The New York Times
He has brilliance, intelligence and stamina, along with the rugged good looks of a Grial knight. Yet he is a tremendously varied singer.

The Independent
Kaufmann's artistry has become universally accepted as the benchmark for excellence.

American Record Guide, January/February 2014
Issues contain many examples of Kaufmann's unique qualities. He mines new meaning from the most familiar arias, principally by his audible chiaroscuro, a wider use of dynamics, and a subtle rubato not heard from any tenor since perhaps V÷lker or Villabella. The two songs also illustrate why he has enjoyed such success in the recital field - the Refice offering stiff competition to Muzio's lovely rendition.
