Notes & Reviews:
Franz von Suppe was an operetta master who studied with the same teacher - Simon Sechter - as Anton Bruckner. He is also known for his religious works. This piece is a wonderfully dramatic work, saturated with melodies, that has been featured prominently in a few new recordings.
American Record Guide, January/February 2014
The performance itself is youthful, energetic, and quite pleasant. The soloists sing handsomely and enthusiastically. Maestro D'Arcy keeps all the components unified in coherent, wellbalanced fashion.
