Notes & Reviews:

Luigi Gerosa plays the three piano sonatas by composer Friedrich Kalkbrenner.

American Record Guide, March/April 2014
This record, presenting three early piano sonatas of Friedrich Kalbrenner, demonstrates the strong resemblance of the his early style to Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Clementi. From our vantage point, Kalkbrenner lies in an interesting transitional period, in terms of both musical style and piano technique. Grounded in the clear phrase structures and rhetorical idioms of the classical style, his music nevertheless hints at the lyrical and dramatic expansiveness that will find fuller expression in the music of Chopin and Liszt. This music is, therefore, interesting.
