Notes & Reviews:

American Record Guide, March/April 2014
Palimpsest is a small concerto for piano and percussion, with those instruments placed behind a row of string and wind players. Akanthos has soprano Tony Arnold mostly vocalizing with the ensemble; her tone is sweet, and she sings the music so well. Zythos is for trombone and six marimbas. Thallein (budding) is more than 18 minutes long and is a great illustration of what I think is Xenakis's biggest strength: his structures are easy to follow in spite of their complexity. 'O-Mega' was his last piece; it is scored for percussion and ensemble and lasts less than four proud and stately minutes. The playing overall is top-notch, and Steven Schick's brief essay is lyrical on its own - a delight to read.
