Notes & Reviews:
Canadian cellist Denise Djokic has earned world-wide acclaim for her sincere, powerful interpretations and her bold command of the instrument. For her second solo CD on ATMA, she has chosen works for cello and piano by Chopin and Rachmaninov. She is joined by her regular chamber music partner, pianist David Jalbert.
Gramophone Magazine, February 2014
The first thing that strikes you about Denise Djokic is her sound. It's plush and beautifully moulded. She's at her best in the soulful elements of these two sonatas...what's missing is any great insight into the music on offer.
American Record Guide, March/April 2014
This coupling of major cello sonatas composed by these virtuosic pianist-composers makes up a moving program. Both composers write most richly for their own instrument. Djokic and Jalbert have managed to solve the balance problem, and the results are excellent. They work together with grandeur and sensitivity. I found her musical conversation with Jalbert most effective. This is an unusually satisfying presentation of these works. The Vocalise brings the listener back down to earth.
