Notes & Reviews:

"The Meiningen Court Orchestra premiered the Brahms Fourth and was closely associated with the composer. It was small, with only 49 members, and that didn't bother Brahms; when he was given the chance to augment the string section for the Fourth's premiere, he declined. On this set, Sir Charles Mackerras has re-created the size of the Meiningen...Brahms lovers must hear it...this is one of those rare cases where I would strongly recommend buying a complete set." -Sherman, Fanfare
