Notes & Reviews:

A new multi-channel SACD hybrid version of this magnificent symphonic recording featuring the Kansas City Symphony conducted by Michael Stern! The disc contains both 5.1 Surround and Stereo SACD layers, as well as a stereo compact disc player made with the HDCD process for higher fidelity. This colorful, beloved English music was recorded and mastered by RR's own GrammyR-winning engineer Keith O. Johnson. The Kansas City Symphony garnered tremendous critical acclaim for their first project on Reference Recordings, incidental music for The Tempest by Sullivan and Sibelius, and their second release Britten's Orchestra received a GrammyR for Best Surround Sound for both engineer and producer.

Classical CD Choice
Stern characterizes each variation with great skill...the eloquent cello playing in Variation XII and the superb room-shaking organ in the Finale makes this a performance and recording to relish.
