Notes & Reviews:

Francesco Meli is acclaimed for his mellifluous tenor in the French and Italian bel canto repertoire celebrated on this recital disc with songs and arias from Rossini to Massenet. Complementing these are song cycles by Liszt and Britten setting poems by two great figures of the Italian Renaissance, Michelangelo and Petrarch. Presenting the major singers of today and the stars of tomorrow, the Rosenblatt Recitals are London's only world-class season of opera recitals. 'People often say that the golden age of singing is dead. The Rosenblatt Recital Series is devoted to proving that bel canto - literally 'beautiful singing' in its broadest sense - is very much alive!' -Ian Rosenblatt

American Record Guide, May/June 2014
Meli sings in the grand tradition of Italian operatic tenors with a voice that is virile and exciting. The operatic arias are thrilling, and his quiet singing is gorgeous. Most of the time he is a pleasure to hear. Still, his open and gentle mezza voce is exquisite, and it shines often in Massenet's 'En Ferment les Yeux' and three Tosti songs that show him at his best. Pais is a thoroughly dependable collaborator.

Opera Now
[Meli is] one of the great tenor hopes of his generation. This is a fresh and lively voice that pings out of the speakers...he essays Britten's Michelangelo Sonnets and Liszt's Petrarch Sonnets, coping admirably with the first group's shifts of mood and colour and the second group's demanding tessitura.
