Notes & Reviews:

Esteemed as an interpreter of the French and Italian repertoire, lyric baritone Gino Quilico has regularly performed with the world's major opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera and the Paris Opera. He has worked with such distinguished conductors as Herbert Von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, Riccardo Chailly, Seiji Ozawa, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta and Kent Nagano. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1987 as Lescaut in "Manon" and has regularly returned since in over 150 performances. He has participated to over 20 opera recordings and received a Grammy Award for his participation in the recording of Les Troyens.

Serata d'Amore... A romantic evening is not complete without music: traditional Neapolitan songs perhaps, or maybe a few operatic arias, beautiful melodies that tune the ear and warm the hearth with an amalgam of souvenirs. Quilico chose to converge back towards his roots in Italy where, every weekend in the car between Rome and Ostia, he would intone as a child arias of Tosti and traditional ballads along with the warm baritone of his father Louis and the accordion of his mother, the pianist Carolina Pizzolongo.

The album is infused with youth while still recalling nostalgia, an object frozen in time, like an old postcard looked at from time to time. The works on this album have been loved for years, and this will remain so for decades to come. One will find treasures such as two of Tosti's 500 popular parlor ballads, and an aria Ruth McGuiré, and Valerio Sannicandro.

Mariann was awarded the Schönberg Prize of the Austrian Arnold Schönberg Stiftung in 2000, the DAAD Scholarship of the German State in 2001, and the Annie Fischer Performance Artist Prize and Scholarship of the Hungarian Ministry of National Cultural Inheritance in 2002.
