Notes & Reviews:

Pro Cantione Antiqua delivering a stellar recording of Palestrina's most famous mass setting, the Missa Papae Marcelli, a recording which received a high 3-Star review by the Penguin Guide. It is paired with Palestrina's Assumption mass, less famous but no less accomplished, another fantastic performance by the early music specialists under the direction of Mark Brown.

Penguin Guide
Eloquence and power against a resonant acoustic. The recording is splendidly balanced. Whatever other versions you may have... this has special claims, and its outward severity does not preclude depth of feeling - rather the reverse.

Gramophone
Neither triumphalist nor even dramatic, but serene.... PCA's interpretation of Assumpta est Maria is every bit as vibrant as The Tallis Scholars... Plainchant items are well-chosen and movingly delivered.
