Notes & Reviews:

A debut album from cellist Marta Bagratuni challenges the traditional concept of a classical music CD, with an across borders exploration of the traditional and the groundbreaking. With a track list that offers repertoire spanning 300 years from 18th century Jean Barriere to the music of today, the album presents an eclectic program of works from 13 different countries - adhering to its title. "Pieces of the World" also unveils a new work written for the young cellist by Armenian composer Vache Sharafyan, which features percussion and presents Marta both as a cellist and a soprano, calling upon the performer to sing. Containing no liner notes and a pop-culture cover designed by Zac Brunell "Pieces of the World" is a daring representation of classical music's new generation of artists.

American Record Guide, March/April 2014
Now comes the longest piece, Arvo Part's Fratres at just under 11 minutes. This is one of his smoothly attractive pieces. The program ends with A Gem Rose by Vache Sharafyan, a piece full of high register passages including both voice and percussion. This is quite demanding in both areas. This is quite an impressive showoff program, pleasant to hear and played well by all. If you wish to hear a good cellist-singer, here is one. The recording is fine.
