Notes & Reviews:

From "The Flight of the Bumblebee" to victory in Stalingrad: a virtuoso journey! With the release of the Royal Norwegian Air Force Band's new album featuring Russian music for wind instruments, the scene is set for a compelling musical experience. Bearing the title Battle of Stalingrad, the recording offers the listener works of some of the most prominent early Soviet composers. The idea for the recording stemmed from the band's hugely popular concert production in Trondheim in Fall 2011, and at the Nordland Music Festival 2012.

American Record Guide, May/June 2014
The opening work here is Reinhold Gliere's 'Solemn Overture for the 20th Anniversary of the October Revolution' (1937), and a rousing bit of patriotism it is. The beautifully tuned and balanced fanfare that sets it in motion immediately identifies the Royal Norwegian Air Force Band as a very fine outfit. The music is as direct and evocative as you might imagine. Fine readings by a first-rate band.
