Notes & Reviews:

Inspired by Mendelssohn's chamber works, Johannes Brahms went on to define the sextet form. His two glorious String Sextets possess a rare sweetness, the full variety of colors of both summer and autumn and the power and brilliance of a string orchestra. His works in turn inspired many later composers, most notably Reger and Schoenberg. On this super-audio CD, the Prazák Quartet, augmented by the talents of violist Petr Holman and cellist Vladimír Fortin, offer powerful and virtuosic interpretations of these evergreen chamber favorites.

American Record Guide, May/June 2014
The sextets, of course, are wonderful pieces, the ideal way for newcomers to get started in Brahms's chamber music. Both works and show Brahms at his most lyrical. These are great performances as well. Tempos are well chosen, and the recorded sound is vivid (and very close).
