Notes & Reviews:

Renowned cellist, JAN VOGLER, and pianist, HÉLÈNE GRIMAUD presents a unique version of Robert Schmann's famous song cycle, Dichterliebe, Op. 48. With no changes to the original score, Vogler arranged the piece for cello and piano and plays the vocal part on the cello. Without Heinrich Heine's poems, the Dichterliebe reveals be heard from a new and different perspective. The Dichterliebe is framed on this CD by two other great works by Schumann; Three Fantasy Pieces, Op. 73 and Andante und Variationen, Op. 46.

Ever since choosing to devote his career to the cello, Jan Vogler has been constantly working on expanding the spectrum of his artistry and refining his musical language in an ongoing dialogue with renowned contemporary composers and performers. Recognized for his "rapturously heartfelt playing" (Washington Post), Vogler's distinguished career has featured him with many internationally acclaimed orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago, Boston and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras and the Vienna Symphony. A prolific and multi award-winning artist, Vogler is the General Director of the Dresden Music Festival and founder of the Moritzburg Chamber Music Festival.

Hélène Grimaud began her piano studies in Marseille and was accepted to the Paris Conservatoire at just 13 years old. She won her first prize in piano performance a mere three years later. A student of Leon Fleisher, her career is highlighted by concerts with most of the world's major orchestras and many celebrated conductors. Her recordings have been critically acclaimed and awarded numerous accolades including Cannes Classical Recording of the Year, Midem Classic Award and the Echo Award.
