Notes & Reviews:

The initial installment of the Clavier-ubung, Bach's first published opus. The most complete recording of the Bach Partitas, on 3 CDs, with all the repeats played. Recorded on a state-of-the-art replica of a German-style harpsichord from 1709. Latest release in Musica Omnia's complete recording of Bach's solo music for harpsichord performed by one of the leading specialists in this core repertoire. Booklet essay by Peter Watchorn, providing detailed background and musical analysis.

American Record Guide, January/February 2014
Watchorn performs on a beautiful, large harpsichord after Harass models by AR McAllister, supplemented here and there by a sumptuous pedal harpsichord after Hass by Hubbard & Brockman. The larger instruments make possible slower tempos, and many movements benefit from an approach with greater breadth. The Allemande from Partita 1 only sounds right at a slow tempo, and Watchorn employs pliant phrasing to make sense of its unusual moments. Very subtle and varied articulation only enriches the effect. Likewise, in Partita 3, the Fantasia benefits from a wonderful variety of articulation and subtle.
