Notes & Reviews:

A debut album of pianist Iskander Zakirov performing Mozart's Sonata in C Major, K. 330 and Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 570, as well as 12 Lyric Pieces by Grieg. Iskander Zakirov was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan to a family of professional musicians. He started his musical studies at the age of five. At the age of six he entered the Uspensky Music Lyceum for Gifted Children in Tashkent, Soviet Union. Iskander Zakirov received his Doctor of Musical Arts from Michigan State University, where he studied with Deborah Moriarty. He also studied in the Tashkent State Conservatory and Duquesne University. His teachers include Lev Naumov, Lia Schwartz, and David Allen Wehr. Zakirov enjoys an active performing career covering a wide range of solo and chamber music, performing throughout the United States, Europe, and former Soviet Union. While focusing primarily upon the performance and teaching of Western art music, Zakirov also pursues interests in other musical styles, such as contemporary and electronic music. Zakirov is an accomplished piano teacher whose students actively perform and teach in Uzbekistan, Russia, and the United States.

American Record Guide, May/June 2014
Zakirov's Mozart is also crisp and clear. Zakirov handles Grieg better than Mozart. The Lyric Pieces show the same painstaking care as his Mozart: 'Arietta' and 'Butterfly' are especially exquisite.
