Notes & Reviews:

This is a great collection of works from Spain and Mexico for mezzo-soprano and marimba. The compositions date from the mid-19th century to the beginning of the 21st century.

American Record Guide, July/August 2014
This is a very interesting and varied selection of 27 well-known and obscure songs, folk dances, and religious songs using voice and mostly marimba only. If you like the sound of the marimba you will thoroughly enjoy the accompaniment. The songs are alternately lively, romantic, or introspective, with many lyrics based on the poems of Federico Garcia Lorca. The performances are very good. Miss Drutys has an interesting mezzo voice. This is the sound we would expect from Carmen. The marimba playing is outstanding and thoroughly displays the unique sound and wide range of the instrument. The marimba is recorded over the complete stereo soundstage, which allows for amazing clarity. In some of the Mexican songs the marimba is supplemented with percussion instruments. The recording is extremely clear, with a warm sound that enhances the songs.
