Notes & Reviews:

The Venezuelan pianist Teresa Carreno was one of the most virtuosic artists of her age. A child prodigy, she won the admiration of Gottschalk and Anton Rubinstein, and gave sold-out concerts throughout America, Europe and Australasia. This selection of piano compositions, the earliest of which was written at the age of nine, reveals exacting technical demands allied to an impressively expressive arsenal, exemplified by the Reverie-Impromptu and the little-known Caprice-Etudes. Elemants of bel canto infuse Plaintes au bord d'une tombe whilst Mendelssohnian warmth can be savoured in the Elégie.

American Record Guide, May/June 2014
This music has a gentle melancholy. Several of these miniatures have Chopinesque harmonies and perfumes: the Nocturne 'Souvenirs de mon Pays', dedicated to Carreno's daughter, is exquisite; the Caprice-Etude 1 has dark minor-key harmonies; the hymn-like Reverie-Impromptu reveals a gift for romantic melody. The album ends on an upbeat note, the composer's Opus 1, a highly accomplished waltz full of scintillating episodes written for Gottschalk. Alexandra Oehm plays with sensitive phrasing and skillful voicing. Her refined musical sensibility is just right for this repertory. The recording, like the music, is warm and inviting.
