Notes & Reviews:
Live recording of Manfred Trojahn's new opera Orest in its world premiere in Amsterdam! In this fine production, new chief conductor Marc Albrecht is firmly in command of a first-rate cast. De Nederlandse Opera is the Netherlands' largest opera company, having grown into one of Europe's most prominent and progressive opera companies under the leadership of artistic director Pierre Audi and managing director Truze Lodder.
It starts with a blood-curdling scream. And there is plenty of blood to curdle. Manfred Trojahn's Orest enjoyed its world premiere in Amsterdam amid spectacular splashes of gore and commensurate splatters of sound ... for all its brutality, this is the most lush and lyrical of Trojahn's stage works yet.
