Notes & Reviews:
This recording of the hilarious Gilbert & Sullivan 1878 comic opera was made at the 2013 Ohio Light Opera Festival and includes complete music and dialog. H.M.S. Pinafore has been the most frequently performed work at the Ohio Light Opera and an audience favorite on both sides of the Atlantic since its initial run.
American Record Guide, March/April 2014
This is a very good recording of HMS Pinafore from the 2013 Ohio Light Opera season. G&S has to be performed convincingly, with commitment and wit, and this production has that. It is a quite worthy alternative to the complete Decca D'Oyly Carte recording from 1959. The other cast members are also fine, with very good singing, committed acting, convincing British accents, and lots of rolled Rs. The sound is excellent. The single-disc recording on Telarc, without dialog, has excellent sound and Charles Mackerras conducting a lively performance.
