L'Apres-midi des Flutes - Music of Strauss, Dvorak, Debussy, Reznicek, Rimsky-Korsakov / The 14 Berliner Flotisten

Notes & Reviews:

It is surely one of the most beautiful declarations of love on the flute: Claude Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune. But what happens when love grows and grows? Then the 14 Berliner Flötisten led by Andreas Blau are in their element. The musicians, all of them soloists from the best Berlin orchestras, begin their program dedicated to famous masterpieces of the fin de siècle with their adaptation of this famous orchestral work - but not before a certain insect flies by with breathtaking virtuosity.

The instrumental lineup ranges from the tiniest sopranino to the contrabass flute (with its twists and turns, also an impressive sight to see), and when experts do the playing, the Bohemian color seems familiar and yet new - and in any case is heard in typical "Berlin sound."
