Notes & Reviews:

This version of Beethoven's choral symphony is a first release. It was originally broadcast in Copenhagen during a live concert conducted by Rafael Kubelik in February 1959. It is the conductor's fastest recorded version and quite possibly his best. It is characterized by a rather lively tempo, a second movement with thundering timpani and a raging beginning of the fourth movement. Among the soloists is the famed Australian soprano Elsie Morison, whom Kubelik would go on to marry a few years later.
