Notes & Reviews:

  • Transcriptions written by Ysaye and Kreisler in homage to Paganini, as performed by violinist Laurent Korcia
  • Laurent Korcia won the Paganini competition at the age of eighteen, during which he played on one of Paganini's violins.
  • Booklet notes in French and English.

The Guardian, 13th February 2014
This is a virtuoso album par excellence...It's an intelligent look at the virtuoso tradition that also stakes a major claim to being an integral part of it. Korcia plays with a reckless flamboyance and a sweetness of tone that are utterly beguiling and leave you craving more.

American Record Guide, May/June 2014
Korcia, who has all the technical equipment of a Paganini, has put together an enticing program of unusual music. Korcia plays all the notes of Kreisler's 'La Campanella', 'La Gitana', and 'Malaguena' transcriptions as we know them. His playing is a mixture of the the brilliant. I have tremendous respect for his technique. I like Haruko Ueda's reading of Kreisler's 'Petite Valse' for piano alone very much. He is a brilliant accompanist (following Korcia everywhere he goes) and exercises taste in this salon-style piece.

BBC Music Magazine, July 2014
Every notes sparkles with an ear-tweaking clarity and larger-than-life tonal lustre reminiscent of Pinchas Zukerman at his early-1970s prime...Finest of all is a gripping performance of Ysaye's 15 wrist-crippling variations on Paganini's famous Caprice No. 24, a cornucopia of fiendish technical ingenuity that Korcia throws off with scintillating flair and passion.
