Notes & Reviews:

In this series of world premiere recordings of the symphonic music of Knudåge Riisager (1897-1974), you get to know the charming Danish composer through a genre he once tried to 'kill off ', yet at the same time refused to abandon. The Fourth and Fifth Symphonies, recorded here along with the Sinfonia concertante and the entertaining Summer Rhapsody, show Riisager as a searching, unprejudiced composer for whom the classical form types, despite all opposition, kept their attraction and fascination

American Record Guide, July/August 2014
His Sinfonia Concertante (1937) is a bracing workout for a string orchestra. I and II are tonally tart string writing. Symphony 4, Gaia (Gay) has spirited opening themes, supported by good counterpoint. At about 3:20 the music does sound like that greatest of Danes. Quite comprehensible rhythms. The Summer Rhapsody (1943) is a string of Danish folk tunes, orchestrated with a mix of brashness and humor. Its amiability would make it a good pops entry. It's hard to imagine it was written during the Nazi occupation.
