Notes & Reviews:

Rued Langgaard's string quartets are passionate, youthful works. Includes the world premiere recording of Rosengaardsspil (Rose Garden Play) The prizewinning Nightingale String Quartet offer distinctly dramatic interpretations of this music. This recording series presents all 9 quartets together for the first time. 'This young Danish Ensemble throws itself into the music... To call the second volume 'eagerly anticipated' would be a massive understatement.' - Gramophone

American Record Guide, July/August 2014
The unnumbered Quartet in A-flat was written at the same time as Rosengaardsspil and was originally given the same title. The Nightingale Quartet delivers an excellent rendition. They were formed in 2007 and look very young in the booklet's photo. It is remarkable that they have given us a performance of such maturity and sensitivity.
