Notes & Reviews:

The Great Silbermann organ of Freiberg Cathedral is one of the best-preserved organs of Baroque times, as well as one of those that is most true to the original although the legendary instrument represents a special case even within the oeuvre of organ builder Gottfried Silbermann. He had just studied the handcraft of organ building with his brother Andreas in Strasbourg, and thus experienced the sound world of French baroque organs. Coming back to Germany, Silbermann brought together the influences of the French Alsation and the central German tradition. The two apparently diverging characters of the Freiberg cathedral organ merge in a unique way, into a marvelous sonority.
