Notes & Reviews:

The clarinetist Ulf Rodenhäuser immediately holds his audiences spellbound in the wonderfully melancholy initial atmosphere of the Fantasiestücke. The fantastic romantic cosmos spreading out before us in the three short pieces ranging from simple melody to stormy impetus abounds in deeply felt expression. Ingo Goritzki scores an impressive success with the feared Romanzen for oboe and piano: in seeming defiance of human respiratory requirements.

A genuinely romantic atmosphere is conjured up on the stage in the Märchenbilder, one of Schumann's few cyclical works for viola. Hariolf Schlichtig rises to the enormous technical challenges including extended double stops and passages requiring great finger dexterity. A rarity is heard in the form of the Violin Fantasy op. 131: Nicolas Chumachenko dedicates himself to this work from the composer's late period with just the right understated virtuosity.

Pianist Kalle Randulu sees to it that the forces of unity prevail over the diversity represented by the compositions and the independent tendencies of their interpreters. His fine piano playing offers his partners guiding impulses and lays the foundation for overall unity in romantic performance.
