Notes & Reviews:

All the composers on this recording were active in 17th century Hamburg, which was then a flourishing commerce and culture center, and a magnet for composers drawn by the city's many magnificent church organs. The program on this new CD, featuring works by pre-Bachian masters Rosenmuller, Buxtehude and Weckmann, among others, alternates instrumental (chamber music and organ solo) and vocal works (Cantatas). The period instrument group Ensemble Meridien here make their CD debut.
