Notes & Reviews:
Bellini's opera is considered one of the first Italian romantic operas as well as containing the first full-scale mad scene. The Orchestra and Chorus of the Deutsche Oper Berlin is led by Marcello Viotti. Baritone Alfredo Frontali and soprano Lucia Aliberti headline the cast of singers. Booklet contains extensive liner notes and a synopsis of the opera. The libretto (Italian) is available on the Brilliant Classics website.

Bellini's first hit, a spirited but uneven Gothic farrago, well conducted by Viotti, with a serviceable cast, but Lucia Aliberti a rather pale and under-voiced heroine compared to rivals like Callas.
