Notes & Reviews:

American Record Guide, July/August 2014
Yang, 2005 silver medal winner of the 12th Van Cliburn Piano Competition, presents her sophomore album with great sensitivity and polish. Capturing the "dreamscapes" in this program effortlessly, she commands etherealness and wildness. 'Dreams' and 'Vocalise' are both exquisite and well chosen opening works for the program. Subtlety and poise, not to mention sheer technique, dominates the Fantasiestucke and a gripping Piano Sonata 2. While she carefully shapes her phrasing in 'Des Abends', her rendering sounds straightforward in comparison to Richter.

Pianist Joyce Yang follows her critically acclaimed AVIE debut, Collage (AVR 2229), with the equally imaginative Wild Dreams, inspired by a musical dream sequence. The artist interweaves dream-inspired pieces such as Earl Wild's transcription of "Rachmaninov's Dreams," Hindemith's "In Einer Nacht," and Schumann's "Traumes Wirren" with the nocturnal "Night Music" by Bartok and Schumann's "In der Nacht." The climax of the program is Rachmaninov's passionate Second Piano Sonata, performed with bravado.

San Francisco Classical Voice
In Schumann's Fantasiestucke ... Yang was probing vivid colors and emotional extremes ... The opening Des Abends depicted dreamy colors, reminiscent of a slowly rotating kaleidoscope, and was followed by a passionate and exuberant reading of Aufschwung ... Combined with her masterfully dexterous fingers, inner textures were brought out clearly.

International Record Review, May 2014
Yang gives us the 1931 version [of the Rachmaninov Sonata], and what a memorable account it has turned out to be, too. She ladles on the passion with commendable aplomb, while achieving some enviable finesse and individuality in the central movement.
