American Record Guide, March/April 2014
Both Linda Wang and Alice Rybak were known at an early age for their performing abilities, and both bring their experience to this record. There is a clear emphasis on Chinese and Japanese music, with Debussy included as a Western composer who influenced Toru Takemitsu in particular. The Debussy violin sonata is easily biggest and beefiest piece here. Her 'Romance and Dance' for violin and piano is a lively. Toru Takemitsu's 'Distance de fee' shows clearly the influence of Debussy, while also showing the ingenuity and maturity that made him such a powerful intercultural presence in the compositional world. The pieces included make the record well worth hearing.
