Notes & Reviews:
Paul Hindemith composed his best-known song cycle in 1924 but then later thoroughly revised it. The second version of 1948 is surely the one that is easier to sing, more appealing, and on the whole of greater maturity. The cycle consists of songs based on poems by Rainer Maria Rilke. Glenn Gould regarded Hindemith's Marian cycle as nothing less than the most magnificent song cycle ever written, and it is now fittingly and outstandingly interpreted by soprano Maya Boog and pianist Michael Lakner.Notes & Reviews:
