Notes & Reviews:

American Record Guide, July/August 2014
This fascinating program includes song cycles based on Norwegian folk tunes arranged by Felix Treiber and soprano Aselinde Wiland, contemporary music by Felix Treiber, and songs by Edvard Grieg arranged for the ensemble by Treiber. The program is particularly interesting for the inclusion of the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, or Hardingfele, a violin-like instrument with a beautiful, haunting sound. Treiber's music is experimental, sparse, and full of interesting sounds. It is nevertheless an extremely interesting idea for a program.

This CD's emphasis is Norwegian song - newly adapted songs of Edvard Grieg, folk songs and cheeky burlesques, all idiomatically interpreted by Norwegian soprano Aselinde Wiland. Further authenticity is realized by the use Norway's national instrument, the Hardanger fiddle. Ttitle and focal point of the CD are provided by Felix Treiber's (b. 1960) setting of modern poems by the Norwegian prize-winning writer Paal-Helge Haugen.
