Notes & Reviews:

On her Delos debut recording - Lynn Vartan presents a fascinating program of works written since the turn of the 21st century. Among percussionists who have gravitated to solo marimba performance, Ms. Vartan has emerged as one of the most brilliant and engaging virtuosos. Lynn displays further versatility by also playing vibraphone and crotales (small, bell-like cymbals). Some use of prerecorded sampling make for impressive and beguiling sonic tapestries.

American Record Guide, January/February 2015
The warm tone and natural fade of the marimba's notes make it a capable instrument. It present a number of enjoyable, often exciting works. The opening, catchy `Abaca' by Guillaume Le Picard rolls along in a gentle 6/8 meter before wading into a warm, hopeful tremolo section. Anna Ignatowicz's `Toccata' travels through different Scenes. Motion is constant and small shifts keep the listener interested. Csaba Zoltan Marjan's `Niflheim' opens at a blistering pace. Vartan ends her program with Christos Hatzis's In the Fire of Conflict (previously reviewed S/O 2013). The addition of a work that relies primarily on recorded material adds depth and interest to the program.
