Notes & Reviews:

The unifying thread that binds these three works, besides the composers' Italian birth, is their early musical maturity. Petrassi became one of Italy's outstanding 20thcentury musicians. His broadly neo-Classical Preludio, Aria e Finale a wide range of emotions. Francesco Cilea's Cello Sonata the work of a talented young man on the brink of operatic success. The Sonata the gifted Sandro Fuga, here receiving its world premiere recording, is suffused with elegance and serenity.

American Record Guide, July/August 2014
Francesco Cilea (1866-1950) is known to all opera lovers for his 1902 masterpiece, Adriana Lecouvreur. His 1866 Cello Sonata is as you'd expect packed with dulcet, vocal-style melodies - quite touching ones in the warmly effusive central Romanza - harmonized with a richness one might look for in Dvorak and a brilliance that recalls Chabrier. There's something magical and captivating about Fuga's music. I'm delighted to welcome him to the digital era, and I fervently hope more of his music appears on CD soon. His catalog includes much piano music, three violin sonatas, six string quartets, a piano trio and piano quintet, as well as operas and symphonic works.
