Notes & Reviews:

American Record Guide, July/August 2014
Like others in this series, Swiss pianist Haefliger prefers to avoid themed programs and structures his recordings as recitals, with compelling contrasts between works. Whatever his rationale, it works well in giving us a satisfying and stimulating musical journey. Both sonatas are played brilliantly and avoid any overload of sturm und drang. It all unfolds naturally and, with the engineers allowing a little distance between us and the pianist. While the idiom is very different, the music speaks with emotional reserve and a gentle, almost impressionist feeling. Two additional Berio encores are played after Sonata 30, and fit their location like a glove.

Andreas Haefliger continues his fascinating, thought-provoking, and captivating Perspectives series, in which he juxtaposes the Piano Sonatas of Beethoven with other composers, casting an enlightening glow on the works that one would not detect if played in isolation. On Perspectives 6, themes of humanity, nature, and love run through a program emphatically to be listened to rather than analyzed intellectually. Haefliger opens with Beethoven's early Piano Sonata No. 10, Op. 14, and then segues into two of Berio's seldom-heard encores, "Erdenklavier" and "Wasserklavier." He emerges to perform Beethoven's late Piano Sonata No. 30, Op. 109, followed by two more miniatures by Berio, "Luftklavier" and "Feuerklavier." The album culminates with Schumann's great Fantasy in C.

Philadelphia Inquirer
Standard-setting Beethoven... Few 'Hammerklavier' performances are this complete, taking in the big picture as well as the tiniest details.

The Guardian, 22nd May 2014
Taken as a whole, they link together a very satisfying sequence, though one that is more memorable as a totality and for Haefliger's performances of the Berio pieces...than for the individual accounts of the repertoire pieces.

BBC Music Magazine, August 2014
Haefliger likes to organise his recordings as integrated recitals, rather than as a contribution to a complete cyce of Beethoven Sonatas, or something of the kind...He combines a strenuously intellectual approach with a gorgeously velvety touch, the latter reminiscent of Wilhelm Kempff...This is a disc to give balm to the soul.

Gramophone Magazine, August 2014
This is an ardent, animated and intelligently detailed performance, full of textual diversity that never spills over into contrivance or eccentricity...An uncluttered, beautifully wrought finale conclues one of Haefliger's most satisfying releases.
