Notes & Reviews:

This new 2012 recording brings together two great, but altogether different 20th century Russian Cello Sonatas: the gorgeous, deeply romantic and near-symphonic Rachmaninoff, and the hybrid romantic/grotesque/introspective late-period op. 119 of Prokofiev. As interludes we hear arrangements of Tchaikovsky's ballet music from Sleeping Beauty, and the Sérénade Espagnole by Glazunov, a brilliant show piece. The booklet's liner notes contain work notes and performer biographies.

American Record Guide, November/December 2014
The Brilliant issue begins with the Rachmaninoff in a recording richer in bass resonance and cello tonal variety. Satisfying Prokofieff sonata played with panache. Russakovsky has a more varied vibrato than Atapine.
