Notes & Reviews:

Of a decade of Lassus' activity at the court of Bavaria (1569-1579) marked by a deterioration of relations with his patron Prince Albert V, this recording captures the variety of genres covered by the composer, from the liturgical area (mass, Magnificat) to the free inspiration of the composer: religious and secular motets, Latin and French songs, madrigals, secular and spiritual Lieder, not to mention his only contribution to the purely instrumental field with two-part works that make the link between the different parts.

American Record Guide, November/December 2014
This concept of a musical biography is particularly appropriate for the composer, Orlando Lassus. He was greatly respected by his contemporaries, easy to market for publishers, and of great influence on the next generation of composers, including Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli. What also makes such a musical biography sonically interesting is that he composed so many different types of music, and each volume of this series mixes sacred music (in the form of Masses, motets, and other liturgical music) with secular genres in the many languages that Lassus used - even in his personal correspondence (especially Latin, Italian, French, and German).
