Notes & Reviews:

Ravel's first and most popular piano is imbued with light and sunny images and 20th century dance rhythms. It is performed by Yakov Zak, one of the brightest representatives of the domestic pianistic school of the mid-20th century. The concerto for the left hand has stern and tragic coloring, virtuosic devices and is extremely difficult. It was recorded here by Alexander Slobodyanik. The album also features two symphonic works by Ravel conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov.

The diamantine glitter of the piano part certainly comes through well enough. Also, there's an urgency and eloquence to Zak's playing that's hard to resist..The concertos are a treat; routine fillers though.
